The story

What happens

It starts at a frosty bedroom window, with a wish. Then a star tumbles down into the snow, and your child sets off into the winter night to help it.

Along the way they share a scarf with a shivering fox, ride a snowy owl over the sleeping rooftops, and climb to the top of the tallest hill, where the star can rise back into its place.

It ends back in a warm bed, with one star that always shines a little brighter. A calm, cosy finish for bedtime.

Look inside

A few pages from the book we made for Lily, a fictional child.

Cover: Lily, a little girl with glasses and a blonde bob, looks up at a smiling star over a snowy village.
Lily and the Lost Christmas Star
Lily and her white cat Snowball at the bedroom window as a star falls into the garden.
Then, whoosh! One little star slipped out of the sky, tumbled through the snowflakes, and landed with a soft plop right in Lily's garden. Snowball pressed her soft paws on the windowsill, and her tail curled round Lily's knee.
Lily wraps her orange scarf around a shivering white fox on a snowy log.
By a fallen log sat a little fox, shivering in the cold. Lily unwound her scarf and wrapped it snug around him. "Thank you," said the fox. "Follow me. I know the way to the tallest hill."
Lily and the fox ride a great snowy owl over the rooftops of the village at night.
Up, up, up they flew, over sleeping rooftops and twinkling Christmas lights. Lily laughed so hard that the owl hooted with laughter too.
Lily, the fox and the owl watch the star rise back into the sky from the top of the hill.
The star floated up, up, up, and filled the hole in the sky. It shone brighter than all the others. "Thank you, Lily!" it sang. "I will never forget you."
Lily asleep in her warm bed, hugging a little toy fox.
Back in her warm bed, Lily smiled and closed her eyes. And every Christmas after, one star always shone just for her.
