The story

What happens

A young reindeer taps on your child's window with big, worried eyes. Together they gallop into the moonlit forest and meet an elf who has searched under every bush.

The forest is huge and the bell is tiny, so your child has a clever idea: stop, stay very still, and listen. They follow the jingle across a frozen stream, work as a team to reach it, and race it back to Santa's sleigh.

The little reindeer who thought he was too small to fly finds out he isn't. A story about listening, teamwork and being brave, with a sleepy ending for bedtime.

Look inside

A few pages from the book we made for Layla, a fictional child.

Cover: Layla, a girl in a lilac hijab and glasses, rides a young reindeer through a snowy forest beside an elf with a lantern.
Layla and Santa's Missing Sleigh Bell
Layla and her gray rabbit Cloud at the frosty window while a young reindeer peeks in from the snow.
Tap, tap, tap! Something was knocking on the glass. Layla rubbed away the frost and gasped. A young reindeer stood in the snow, peeking in with big, worried eyes. Cloud twitched her soft nose beside Layla and pressed close to the warm windowsill.
Layla rides the galloping reindeer between snowy pine trees under the moon.
"Climb on!" said the reindeer. "I'm too little to fly, but I'm very fast." Layla wrapped her arms around his neck, and off they galloped between the tall, snowy pines, their shadows racing beside them in the moonlight.
Layla, the reindeer and the elf cross a frozen stream on snowy stones.
Layla led the way, following the sound across a frozen stream, hopping from stone to snowy stone. Jingle, jingle! The sound was getting louder and louder.
Layla rides the reindeer beside the elf with her lantern, racing toward Santa's red sleigh.
"Quick, to the sleigh!" cried the elf. Layla held the bell tight as they raced through the snow to the top of a hill. There stood Santa's big red sleigh, dark and still, waiting for its jingle.
The little reindeer leaps into the air with Layla on his back while the elf waves her lantern.
The elf waved her lantern goodbye, and with a leap and a whoosh, the little reindeer rose into the air. He was flying at last! Higher and higher they soared, past the snowy treetops and up toward the moon, and Layla laughed all the way home.
